The key benefit to the top track system is that no recessed bottom track is required. This leaves a clean, flat surfaced sill that provides a more aesthetically pleasing look. It also means there is no bottom track for dirt and sand to get trapped in, which can interfere with the running gear. The end result is smooth operation with little or no maintenance required. The top track system enables the rolling gear to be mounted within the frame, concealing it from view.
The top track system also adds security by making it impossible to "lift and slip" the doors from their tracks when the door is fully closed.
